Where you least expect it

Last Sunday at our little Island church, the rector spoke about crosses,  what it meant in Biblical times to be executed on a cross and the meaning of the cross in our lives today.  We were all given small wooden crosses and encouraged to carry them with us in our pockets.   I didn't have a pocket that day, so I brought my cross home and set it in a small dish on my dresser.  Periodically I think about putting it in my pocket, but it just never seems to make it there.
Late yesterday afternoon, I went for a long walk on the beach with my camera.  It was overcast and the sun was low, but there was a lovely glow on the water and the sand.  I wandered to one of my favorite places on the beach, where overturned trees and roots reach out into the Gulf.   This is a photograph of what captured my eye.  It seems that those crosses have stayed with me.....just not in my pocket.
